Demonstrators poured fake blood on the streetDENVER --Protesters blocked the city's Columbus Day parade route Saturday, pouring a bucket filled with fake blood and dismembered baby dolls onto the street as police arrested 83 people. At least 10 people face charges of resisting arrest, but most are accused of blocking a parade route or interfering with peaceful assembly, Denver Police spokesman Sonny Jackson said. No serious injuries were reported.Denver's parade, which was started in 1907, has a history of arrests and confrontations between supporters and detractors of Christopher Columbus.Protesters have called him a slave trader who touched off centuries of genocide and oppression against native peoples. Supporters say that he was a brave explorer who opened a new world and that the parade is an American holiday to be celebrated.Colorado in 1905 became the first state to officially observe Columbus Day, which later became a federal holiday. Columbus Day is being federally observed on Monday. The parade through downtown Denver was delayed about an hour. The protest and delay were anticipated and caused minimal disruption, said George Vendegnia, a parade organizer."With this protest, it's just motivating people more to be back next year and exercise their right to participate in an American holiday," Vendegnia said.Among those arrested Saturday were American Indian Movement activist Russell Means and Glenn Morris, an associate professor of political science at the University of Colorado. They did not immediately return messages.

"Christopher Columbus is a symbol, not of a man, but of imperialism. Imperialism and colonialism are not something that happened decades ago or generations ago, but they are still happening now with the exploitation of people. ... The kind of thing that took place long ago in which people were dispossessed from their land and forced out of subsistence economies and into market economies -- those processes are still happening today."-- John Mohawk, Seneca, 1992

My Blog Title

Everyone knows how hard it is to come up with a blog title when every idea you come up with has already been taken. Actually this title had already been taked so I substituted the o's in 'room' with zero's. When I was little I shared a room with my sister and we were always bickering about my side and your side so at one time we divided the room down the middle. Of course the door was on her side but the closet and all of the toys were on mine :o)

I had a book I used to read called My Side Of The Room. 'Santa' gave it too me for Christmas. So this blog is sort of like my side of the net. When I was 13 my brother went into the United States Army and the day he left I packed up all his gear and moved in to his room. We had fun as kids though. Always ganging up on my sister pulling jokes on her. We would prop open the bedroom door ever so slightly and place the largest stuffed animal up on top we could find. The end result was when my sister opened the door she would be 'attacked' by some sort of large lion or bear. She was also afraid of the dark and before she took a shower she would turn on all the lights upstairs.

Now...I love to know my enemies weaknesses...while in the shower I would turn off all the lights and wait outside the bathroom door for my vict...er...sister. As soon as the door flew open I would jump out with a huge ROAR!!!!! You would think she would catch on to us after a couple of years but she never did.

I'm passing the 'terrorize Amy' legacy onto her youngest daughter. She placed a rubber snake in her mothers bed once. Thought it was the neatest trick in the world. It didn't help matters much that, when she was a baby and they lived in Florida, her mother stepped out of the car only to have a snake wrap itself around her leg. She ran around screaming leaving the baby in the car while her nine year old daughter thought to go get the baby. No wonder my sister is a nervous wreck. I have more stories but I'll stop there.

That's me up front row second from the left. My brother in the orange shirt ans my sister in the back far right.

Because a friend said I should.

I started this blog ages ago but never did anything with it. Now my best friend in the whole world thinks I would like it. Never been much on writing. The closest thing I get is communicating by keyboard/net. I guess there's just nothing going on in my life worth writing about. I wake up, go to work, run around, pay bills, go home only to find more work waiting for me. My only escape seems to be my online chats (with friends of course). There is the occasional walk in the woods.

Last night was pizza night. Once a month we all get together and go to Joe's pizza where they have a live Jazz band and if we're lucky Frank Divito will get up and sing. It's mostly the older crowd that goes but there are some younger couples and families with children. You never know who you will run into and last night we met a cousin of Rick's we've never met before. She and his mother got to chatting and come to find out Rick is related to the couple two doors down from us. I on the other hand knew over half the people there from my work. They're all costumers and they always think it's some sort of special treet when they see me out in public. I think I have fans!
